Ephesians 3:14-21 captures Paul's heartfelt prayer for the believers in Ephesus. He prayed that they would be strengthened in Christ, indwelt by His Spirit, and wholly immersed in His love. He wanted them to be able to grasp and comprehend the breadth, length, height, and depth of the Messiah's love (Ephesians 3:18).
How wide is Jesus' love for you? How long? How high? How deep? ANSWER: Forever in every direction. These four dimensions cannot contain the love of Christ.
To know the love of Christ is the essence of the greatest fullness. "All the fullness of God" speaks of more than one experience or one aspect of His truth and power. It points to a broad-based spirituality that is balanced by believing, receiving, and participating in all of God's blessings and resources, which include His wisdom, His presence, His peace, His word, His love, and His power.
"The LORD opens the eyes of the blind and raises up those who are bowed down" (Psalm 146:8).
God is love. He loves people – He loves the church – He loves the lost world – the greatest proof of that love is the cross (see Romans 5:8).
On the "dark side" of the cross, we're like people walking through life in pitch black, making self-serving decisions driven by pride. Salvation is like God flipping the switch and flooding life with light. In His light we see who we are, who He is, and our desperate need for Him. God's rescue mission is comprehensive – He doesn't merely give us twenty-twenty vision – He lifts us up, dusts us off, and walks alongside us until He calls us home. Metaphorically, providing sight to the blind is about enlightenment, freedom, and a relationship with a loving Father who doesn't want anyone to perish, flailing away in darkness.
For those who feel stuck in the mud, overcome with blindness, and not sure which way to turn, remember this: God has been in the business of providing light for a long time.
If you bought the lie that your past mistakes disqualify you from receiving the goodness of God, the Bible declares otherwise. His love is big enough for every person who yields in submission to Him – there is no limit. Corrie ten Boom once said, "There is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper still."
Thank You, Lord, that Your love is bigger and greater than my past. Holy Spirit, open the eyes of my heart to believe and receive everything God has in store for me and my family.
